Hello! We’re husband and wife, Ruth and Michael, and we launched The Dotted Crotchets String Quartet + Trio back in 2011. After graduating together from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, we found ourselves performing for other string quartets who would play entirely classical music, but finish with one pop song, much to the delight of the guests. So if there was such an enthusiastic reaction to this one song, why not allow the couple to choose an entirely modern playlist of recognisable songs? And so, The Dotted Crotchets String Quartet + Trio was born.
After a successful couple of years in Manchester we launched our Scotland group in 2013, and our London group followed in 2015. Working with a small pool of highly talented and professional musicians, who have all graduated from the UK’s top music conservatoires, we’ve now performed for over 1,500 weddings and events across the UK.
Ruth is the bookings coordinator and will guide you through the whole process from start to finish, answering any questions you have, and providing advice on your song choices and timings. Michael is our music arranger, and as well as arranging new songs to add to our song list, he makes sure that the iPads we use instead of sheet music are always up to date and ready to go. Along with our fantastic team of professional musicians, we will make sure you receive a top quality service and an unforgettable performance on the day.
Finally, what exactly is a dotted crotchet?! It’s a musical term (pronounced crotch-ette), and definitely nothing to do with crochet!
